Sticky rice (xôi), or glutinous rice, is a popular base ingredient in many Asian dishes. This recipe details how to make Xôi Mặn, a savory sticky rice dish featuring Chinese sausage, eggs, ham loaf, chicken, and other delicious toppings.
1. Soak glutinous rice for 1 hour in hot water, then thoroughly rinse until the water runs clear. Steam the rice until fully cooked (approximately 1 hour).
2. Chop and prepare all your additional ingredients as needed.
3. Make the omelet: Whisk the 4 eggs and pour them onto a pan. Cover the pan until the omelet is fully cooked. Roll the cooked omelet into thirds and slice it when cooled to a similar size and shape as the Chinese sausage.
4. In a pan, add onion and garlic and cook the Chinese sausage first. Then, add the rest of your prepared toppings and cook them together. Add a splash of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of sugar, then mix well.
5. Fold the steamed sticky rice into the pan with the cooked toppings, breaking and mixing it all together thoroughly.
6. Serve the Xôi Mặn with more soy sauce on the side, and top with quail eggs, sliced Thai chili peppers, and green onions or cilantro for garnish. Enjoy!
