A savory puff pastry recipe with a delicious filling of pork, mushrooms, and Vietnamese seasonings, perfect for snacks or appetizers that many Vietnamese dads enjoy.
1. Mix all filling ingredients (pork, chopped mushrooms, chopped scallions, fish sauce, white pepper, chicken bouillon, sugar) together in a bowl.
2. Cut out 3-inch circles from the puff pastry sheets (a cup can be used as a cutter).
3. Lay about 1.5 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each puff pastry circle. Lightly brush the edges of the pastry with whisked egg to act as a binder and add color.
4. Place another puff pastry circle on top of the filling and crimp down the edges, using a fork to press the top and bottom layers together firmly.
5. Cut a tiny hole on the top of each pastry to allow steam to exit during baking, preventing the pastry from exploding.
6. Brush the assembled pastries with more egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).
7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 22-26 minutes, or until golden brown.
